Websites

A website built to make the phone ring.

We design and build your website, from the page structure and the words on it to the code underneath. Fast to load, and built to make the phone ring. That is what website design for local businesses across Canada and the United States comes down to: a visitor lands, sees what you sell, sees where you work, and finds the number without hunting. Everything else on the page is there to get them to that point, or it is in the way.

What the first screen has to do

Most local business sites open with a slogan, a stock photo and a menu. What you sell is somewhere further down. Your service area is on the contact page. The phone number is in the footer, in grey. A visitor on a phone, standing in a kitchen with a leak, does not scroll to find out. They go back to the search results and tap the next one.

The first screen has three jobs: say what you do, say where you do it, and put the number where a thumb can reach it. Then the page has to load before their patience runs out, on the phone they actually own, not on the office computer. Speed and structure are not a polish pass at the end. They decide whether anyone reads the words at all.

How the Baseline decides fix or rebuild

Before we touch anything, we measure your site and write it down with a date on it: Lighthouse scores on mobile and desktop, whether your pages are indexed and how they are structured, the state of your Google Business Profile, and whether calls and forms are tracked to a source.

That record makes the fix or rebuild call, not a sales pitch. A site with sound structure and images that weigh too much gets fixed. A site with a theme fighting the browser on every page, and no clear way to change the words, gets rebuilt, because patching it costs more than replacing it and leaves you with the same site afterwards. Either way, when the work is done we run the same measurements again and show you both numbers, before and after.

What website design for local businesses covers

  • Page structure: which pages exist, what each one is for, and what a visitor does next.
  • The words on every page, written around what you sell and what people search for.
  • The first screen on a phone: what you do, where, and the number in reach of a thumb.
  • Code built for speed, so the page loads before the visitor gives up.
  • Headings, markup and page layout that a search engine can read in order.
  • Measured before and after, with both numbers dated and shown to you.

Who this is for

For a business whose current site is slow, hard to update, or does not clearly say what it does. If customers call to ask something the site should have told them, or you have stopped touching the site because changing anything breaks it, this is the service. If the site is sound and the problem is being found, start with SEO instead.

Questions before you book

Do you fix my existing site or build a new one?

The Baseline decides, not a preference for new builds. We measure the site you have, write down what is wrong with it, and you see that record before any work is quoted. If the structure is sound, we fix what the record found. If the code underneath fights every change, we rebuild, because you would be paying to patch a site you still could not update.

Why does speed matter if the site looks fine?

Because looking fine is judged on a big screen at a desk, and the visitor is on a phone, on a mobile connection, in a hurry. A page that takes too long to appear is a page nobody reads. We measure speed on mobile and desktop in the Baseline, and again when the work is done, so you see the change instead of taking our word for it.

What does a website cost?

Pricing is on request. We quote against your Baseline, once we have measured the site you have and know whether it is a fix or a rebuild. The price moves with how many pages the site needs and how much of the writing is starting from nothing. Book a call and you get a number for your site, not a starting price for a site in general.
